The Great Galveston Tree Giveaway
Thus far the Conservancy has organized six highly popular tree giveaway programs and has provided residents with 10,860 5-gallon trees.
The trees are intended for planting on private property and residents sign a pledge to care for them for two years until they are well established.
The program has spurred replanting across many different neighborhoods. It has also helped to educate local citizens not only about the contribution that trees make to the community, but has informed the public about the need for replanting, the importance of their personal commitment to the effort and has had led to the building of a pro-tree constituency across the island.
